The tri-border region of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay is getting a new bridge connecting the neighborhoods of Porto Meira in Brazil and Presidente Franco in Paraguay.
This project is a long-standing demand of both cities, as the current Friendship Bridge can no longer handle the daily traffic flow, which averages 40,000 to 45,000 vehicles. Consequently, the long line can take up to two hours to cross from one country to the other.
However, this new bridge is not yet open for use. Although it was completed a year ago, the access roads on both sides still need to be completed, which should occur in a few months.
